Born to Die

What if I am only alive to die?
This thought hit me yesterday and made me stop and think. What is my purpose in life? What am I supposed to do or fulfill? Every person who is born into this world has a specific purpose and plan that they are called to do with their lives. It is their choice if they will accept God’s plan for them. When God made you in your mother’s womb, He already knew what you needed to accomplish in this life. You have a mission that no one else can fulfill.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you.” ~ Jeremiah 1:5
So, I was thinking about this random idea: what if it was my purpose to die? What if the main reason I was put on this earth, besides to glorify God and get to Heaven, is to die? What if two years down the road, I am riding in the car with my family. I am riding shotgun when we get hit by another car, right on my door. And let’s say I don’t make it. I die. It may seem like, I just died, there was no point. But what if I just saved a life? You’re probably asking how right now. Well, if I wasn’t alive right then, then I would not have been sitting in shotgun. This means that one of my siblings would have been and they would have died instead. But if God had a bigger plan for them, then by me sitting in that seat, as unknowing as I would be, they were saved for something greater. Maybe that sibling will be the next president of the United States or a doctor who saves thousands of lives.
If they were sitting in that seat, the things they would do and the lives they would save, and would never have happened. But by me being there, I died instead. What if my entire purpose, my entire life was just leading up to that moment, so that my siblings would live to do great things? Thinking of this brought me back to an event that happened a couple of years ago. There was an accident, and a little girl, 4 years old, was hit by a car and died. It happened at a family camp that I was helping out at. It was devastating and really hard for many people. But what if her life was leading up to that moment? What if she was alive to die at that camp? I saw what happened after her death: it helped people. Yes, lots of people were struggling with what happened. It was scarring. But it brought the people at the camp together in a way that never would have happened without this accident. Everyone was praying together in a special way for this girl, her family, and the person who had been driving. Teenagers committed to changing their lives and fighting to be free from the sin and struggles they were facing for this girl who died. Her death impacted hundreds of people.
I believe her death saved the lives of some of the teenagers at that camp because they decided to change their lives for her. What if she was alive to die at that camp to change a specific person who would have made a terrible mistake in the future? What if she was born to die? What if the man who was murdered when his house was broken into was born to die at that very moment? Why? Because his best friend joined the police force because of his death and saved hundreds of people that may not have been saved.
The same can be said for many things. That mother’s whole purpose in life could be to give birth to that baby boy who ends up finding a cure for cancer. That fast food employee’s job was to just give that customer a smile that kept him from hurting himself. The Grandmother’s life of 83 years led up to her showing love to her granddaughter so that her granddaughter could show love to her friend, which helped heal her heart. The soldier’s life led up to him taking the bullet for his brother in arms so that his fellow soldier could live to become the general that wins the war. You never know...The smallest thing has the greatest impact. You don’t know why you were put on this earth. Now, I’m not saying that anyone should go looking for trouble or looking to die, I’m just telling you about a thought that went through my head. Think about the martyrs. What if the purpose of their lives was to be martyred and die so that they could impact people by dying for the faith? What if I was born to die? “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens. A time to give birth and a time to die...” ~ Ecclesiastes 2:1-2
