The truth behind Fairy Tales

By: Missionary Team

I don't know about you people, but for me, I love a bit of fiction in my life. Fairy tales about dragons and monsters are always entertaining, and they really spark up the imagination of the reader. But what I want to expound upon is what G.K Chesterton said, and all I can say is that it is very true, and I will tell you why.

"Fairy tales are more than true - not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us dragons can be beaten." G.K. Chesterton

What is the dragon
So to put it bluntly, the dragon is sin or temptation. And we can beat it. But I will expound, do not worry, I like to prove my point and all that etc. So as we recall, St. George killed a dragon that was wreaking havoc right? The dragon demanded human sacrifice and God sent St. George to kill it. The dragon was simply put, a demon, and demons can take many shapes and forms. St. George proved the power of God by killing the beast.

We all have "dragons" in our lives, and it may be that sin we can't get rid of, that thing that holds us back from helping others, anything. But God has given us strength to fight these beastly beasts, all we need to do is trust God. The hardest dragon to fight, at least for me, is the dragon that is temptation. But God says in 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it." God is in control of the dragons that attack you, and God promised that He will not forsake you nor will He give you something that you cannot endure.

Fight or Flight?
Here is a question unto you reader, when do you fight the dragon and when do you flee from the dragon? It's a trick question, you do neither. You cannot beat the dragon for we are all weak, and you cannot outrun the dragon for those things are freaking fast! So then what is the answer? Well I'll tell you. You give it to God. Only God has the power to wreck the dragon. As an exorcist priest once said, "If I can't exorcise the demon, I know that there is a three-hundred-pound gorilla behind me to beat the demon's butt. And that gorilla is Jesus Christ!" - Father Ripperger. You see we can't win on our own but instead we can humble ourselves and show real strength. God is waiting on us to come to Him; He desires that we bring our struggles to Him, He desires that we bring our hardships to Him. God is a loving God, and He will not forsake us.

A Prayer to wrap it all up
Pray this prayer, it is short and to the point. "Lord God, give me courage to stand up to the dragons that come up in my life. Give the strength in You to fight. I cannot win but with You I can. Lord God be my strength and my refuge. Amen." G.K. Chesterton is on to something, so you should read more fairy tales and when the dragon comes on stage, see how the hero fights. Most of the time, God is secretly in the story fighting off the dragon without anyone knowing. God Bless.
